Punkin' PLOPsicles

Ah, the weather has cooled down...just in time for the state fair. Or does the state fair cause the weather change? Let's leave it a mystery, shall we. Now if only I could get Bug to stop that infernal yapping at all the open windows!!

First I want to say farewell to the coolest angora bunny that ever graced the bloggosphere. Weasley Rabbit of Rabbits Eat Quilts blog has crossed the Rainbow Bridge.  He looked like a cranky ole thing, but I know he was sweet and beautiful and loved by all of us who followed his adventures.  Binky Free, Weasley, The Old Bunn And The Sea! Memory Eternal, Old Pirate!!

This morning I opened a can of pumpkin puree for the wunnehs. I used a small scoop and plopped servings on cardboard. I totally keep cardboard for this purpose. Anything goopy for the bunns gets put on cardboard. I don't have a mess to clean and they can do what they want with the cardboard.  I froze the rest of the pumpkin and cut it up into blocks.  When it's time for another pumpkin treat, just let it thaw! Who ate MOST of the pumpkin? SPIDER the cat! He LOVES eating rabbit food including hay.  Strange strange kitteh.

I wish I could find my camera. The other morning I came home from a job site and my house was an episode of Wild Kingdom! There were rabbits hopping all over, chasing the cat, the dogs chasing bunnies...CHAOS!! I had to herd the rabbits back into their pen. Have you ever tried herding rabbits? You get one going where you want it to go, then the others break loose. Then I have the dogs and the cat being of NO HELP whatsoever. I finally got Fatty and Minnie corralled but Mean Girl wasn't having it.  I had to shake a treat container at her and then I snatched her up! LOL. Treats'll do it every time!

Breakfast Buddies

I am paying a lot of attention to what I have been feeding my warren of wunnehs.  I bought some raw, unsalted, unshelled pumpkin seeds at the health food store. The seeds are raw and were refrigerated at the store, so I have them in freezer. They are supposed to be good for breaking down o neutralizing calcium, which can cause urine sludge and kidney stones.  I also got them dehydrated granny smith apples and a bottle of 100% papaya pulp.  I looked for dried papaya, but all they had was the tropical mix...blahblahblah. Papaya is supposed to help with digestion and gut motility.  I plan on drizzling a glob of it on their pellets once a week. Last night, I could not sleep as I was menu planning for the wunnehs.

Everyday:

Morning: Oats, pumpkin seeds, a bite of dehydrated apple and fresh timothy hay sprinkled with dried mint and chamomile (celestial seasonings herbal tea, one tea bag emptied in the hay, you can also go the Mediterranean or middle eastern food stores and buy huge bags of dried mint)
Evening: Pellets (1/4 cup each) a bit of fresh veg or greens as available

Mondays:  Two craisins each
Tuesdays:  Two raisins each
Wednesday: A light pinch of coconut
Thursday: Canned pumpkin puree', one tablespoon each
Friday: One container of Gerber baby food, assorted flavors
Saturday: Gerber Graduates Puff treats, three or four each
Sunday: Papaya drizzle

I am also going to try and harvest some more clover, purslane, dandelion and fresh grasses for them as the weather cools and the outside produce does not fry to a crisp. I would like to get a nice big harvest in and dry it for the winter months.
Honestly, I would rather harvest what they would eat naturally if they were wild bunnies, and store bought veg and greens would hardly ever be on Mother Nature's menu for them unless they got lucky and scored on someones garden. Store veg and greens are always getting recalled.

They also got a new water bottle. Their water crock was CONSTANTLY needing to be cleaned and with Minnie's lop ears and her dewlap, I wanted to be sure nothing would dingle dangle in their water.

This morning, I did give them some Gerber baby food squash.  Only fatty ate it and the darn cat.  He at MOST of it and some of their oats. He is a strange strange weirdo kitteh.

Pictures would be kick ass, but I still cannot find my camera.

Nose bumps!

Gettin' Skinny Minnie: Update

Well, I got a bonded trio.  No, the girls are not spayed yet, but they are the same age and the boy is just a little lover lagomorph, though he is neutered.  He loves having both girls to dote on.  I think he will always be closer to Mean Girl, but all three are currently sitting on a box eating their supper, nose to nose to nose.  I am leaving the x-pens open to each other now and it is working out nicely.  Poor girl was so lonely, I think.  When she is getting her snuggles, she gets super pissed off and thumps until she gets scratched and rubbed again.  Then her eyes close and she goes all pancake bunn and tooth purrs.  She loves being snorgled, held, kissed and loved on.
She is also losing weight, which she needed.  Her dewlap was so tight around her neck.  But she is a good little eater and drinker and pooper, and that is a relief.
It's very nice having a trio, and great they are getting on so nicely.
