Friday Flash Fiction 55 - Honkytonk Bar Fight Kryptonite

"We are responding to a disturbance."
The floor was littered with broken beer bottles and teeth.
"Everything's fine, officer, as you can see", said the bartender, unplugging the sparking jukebox.
Cowboys and rednecks sat meekly, their hats off, sipping beer through busted lips.
"Playing The Star Spangled Banner always settles these good ole boys down."

Thanks to THE one and only G-Man for hosting!

You must have seen the Blues Brother's movie recently. I loved that part when they played the theme from Rawhide.

    1. I DO NOT get NASCAR! I don't get it. Not at all. Cars driving in circles in the heat and one hundred thousand plus people packing the seats. I don't get it...

    1. Not making fun of NASCAR, just wondering why the fans would sit for hours in the hot sun watching cars drive in a circle.

Did you watch that game last night? My husband rage quit watching about ten times then went back for more torture. He said if he heard the words Johnny and Football together again he was going to vomit. I told him now he knows how I feel every time I hear the words Bell and Dozer together!!

  17. Nope, no one messing with anything here. Ask your husband how many words he thinks we know? I don't understand the last two unmentionables you mentioned, but I will ask the all knowing internet. Brandi, I can't get to the reading list anymore. I just got LMcM's book from the library, and they had just gotten a new book that is a biography of the photographer. Some of his pictures are in the longer account on the Washita Park website, too. There is a saying that if you look into the abyss long enough, it looks back at you. I am beginning to think that the looking back part could mean a lot of different things. What happens when a heart shares a journey? How many ways will the men, women, children, horses, and dogs (I am guessing there were dogs) look back at us. Will they ever say, "Thank you for knowing. We are in a good place now." I'm a slow reader, but you have to keep your book club going, growing or at least give me a chance to write down the titles you first gave. Curiously, I thought they would always be there. I know Christmas is coming up for you. Remember the example of the humble star leading us in service of the Great King, for the sake of the sacred and imperishable proclamation of eternal life to a place we needed to go.

  19. Brandi, Lyse Doucet, wishes all Orthodox Christians a Merry Christmas on the BBC world News page. I would like to add mine, too. Fen, was watching PBS's Antiques Road Show Monday Night. It was from Corpus Christi. And a man descended from what he referred to as the last Kiowa chief recognized by the US government had some beautiful things. The appraiser remarked on the silkiness of the leather and said that the Kiowa treatment of leather was superior to anything being done else where in the world at the time. I thought you might want to see it. Oh, a d the BBC page has a link to Orthodox Christian celebrations around the world. Peace and Blessings, Juana

    1. THANK YOU for the information! My mother in law would LOVE this!
FUnny, I got my son a Zombie Survival Calendar (my whole family is very into zombie EVERYTHING and ANYTHING) at Barnes & Noble and he leafing through it and said that there are Eastern Orthodox Christian Holy Days marked. I thought that was CRAY ZEE. BUT, if you read World War Z by Max Brooks (Actor/Comedian Mel Brooks's son), the author uses our priests in very unique ways that I thought was very complimentary and sounded pretty accurate as far as something they would probably resort to if the story were real! YOU HAVE TO READ WWZ!!!
